Duke Anesthesia’s New Interim Residency Program Director

We would like to congratulate Dr. John Eck for his recent appointment as Interim Residency Program Director. Dr. Eck is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at Duke University Hospital, and completed both his medical school and anesthesia residency training at Duke University School of Medicine. As a senior resident in anesthesiology, he served as a Teaching Scholar in the Department and was involved in medical student education.

Following residency, Dr. Eck trained as a Pediatric Anesthesia Fellow at the University of Washington Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle. Upon completion of his fellowship, he joined Duke as faculty and was soon appointed as the Assistant Residency Program Director, a position he has held for the past 15 years. Collaborating with other departments within Duke Health, his primary role in that position has been coordinating the successful anesthesiology internship program while being extensively involved in other aspects of teaching and residency administration within the Department of Anesthesiology.

With his experience and commitment to education, Dr. Eck is excited to take on this new role and work closely with the Duke residents in anesthesia as they become future leaders of our field.
