Duke Anesthesia’s New Director of Quality Improvement

We would like to congratulate Dr. Thomas Hopkins for his recent appointment as Director of Quality Improvement. Dr. Hopkins arrived at Duke in 2008 to begin a categorical anesthesiology residency as part of the inaugural class of the Academic Career Enrichment Scholar (ACES) Program. During his anesthesiology training, Dr. Hopkins was Academic Chief Resident and completed a Master of Management in Clinical Informatics (MMCi) at the Fuqua School of Business. As an anesthesiology resident and pain management fellow, he managed several multidisciplinary research projects that leveraged legacy clinical informatics infrastructure to generate actionable data for care providers and enhance value delivery at the Duke Enterprise level.

Dr. Hopkins is currently collaborating with Duke Translational Medicine Institute (DTMI) and Duke Health Technology Solutions (DHTS) to develop innovative patient safety paradigms, quality improvement metrics, and business intelligence initiatives within Maestro Care. As Director of Quality Improvement, he is committed to develop and implement a strategic plan for integrating clinical, financial, and operational data that will enable high quality clinical care, research, and education for the Department of Anesthesiology.
