Fist Bump for Kathy Clark, CRNA
I would like to offer a five star A++ review of Kathy Clark - she’s an absolute hero extraordinaire!
Kathy offered me a break, which she didn’t even have to do! During this break - a totally stable case turned into a code - a mere two minutes after I left.
Kathy managed chest compressions, achieved ROSC, cleaned up, caught up my chart, and was cool as a cucumber throughout!
There’s no better CRNA out there! I’m so thankful for colleagues like Kathy who can handle literally anything. - Emily Schleicher, CRNA
Fist Bump for Natasha Navejar, MD
I was lucky enough to work with Natasha Navejar on three night shifts.
She was so smart, capable and just an all-around lovely human to work with. She’s a total team player (constantly giving breaks, starting lines, helping transport), and I really appreciated her input and thoughtful plans for patient care.
She’s a great colleague and a huge asset to Duke anesthesia! - Emily Schleicher, CRNA
Fist Bump for Summer Clifford
Two Fist Bumps to Summer. She was instrumental in executing my major office move! She coordinated the equivalent of a special forces mission, packing in one day and arranging an immediate move the next. We packed, moved, and unpacked 72 boxes and 11 filing cabinets, and shelving units. All with the least possible stress and work interruption. I am very grateful for her willingness, dedication, and enthusiasm. - Evan Kharasch, MD
Fist Bump for Sujatha Cumaran, MD
Dr. Cumaran did an amazing job while in the CT ORs during a time when we had four planned GA TAVRs (which is a lot for one day). She was prepared, efficient and knowledgeable. Her hard work and commitment, as well as excellent team communication made it possible for us to finish these cases by the evening, even after an ICU bed hold. Way to go, Sujatha! You are outstanding! - Nazish Hashmi, MBBS
Fist Bump for Ryan Gessouroun, MD, Victoria Offei-Dua, MD, Kasey McLaughlin, CRNA, Justin Shore, and Christian Keville
I cannot say enough about the amazing job "team anesthesia" did on OB during an emergent cesarean-hysterectomy requiring MTP for a >4L blood loss. A quick call to the MOR team brought Dr. Gessouroun, Justin & Christian bedside to support Dr. Offei-Dua and I in our efforts to quickly intubate, line, transfuse, and stabilize our patient. Their support during a truly critical point in her case meant we were able to avoid overt coagulopathy (a true feat that "minimized" her EBL) and hemorrhagic shock - ultimately delivering her to the ICU off pressors with a clearing lactate!
Fist Bump for JJ Ward, MD
I wanted to pass along praise for one of the pain fellows, JJ Ward. He has really dug into the care of a complex patient I am also consulting on. He took part in a family meeting recently (one of many) and demonstrated just a tremendous bedside manner. - Jordan M. Komisarow, MD
Fist Bump for Victoria Brookshire, MD
I took care of a patient in the CTOR who was seen by Dr. Victoria Brookshire in the PASS clinic. Without prompting in the preop bay, the patient and spouse took the time to tell me how impressed they were with her care and bedside manner. Thank you, Dr. Brookshire, for making such a positive impression on our patient and upholding the excellent standards our residency program is known for! - Crosby Culp, MD
Fist Bump for Erin Manning, MD, Adjoa Boateng Evans, MD, Abigail Melnick, MD, Adam Brown, MD, Lawrence Aristizabal, CRNA, Emily Schleicher, CRNA, Danielle Butler, CRNA, Emily Zelaya Diaz, and Rodney Hunt
During a recent spine case, we encountered massive arterial bleeding and the patient rapidly decompensated. With limited staffing, Dr. Boateng from the SICU, Dr. Melnick and Larry from OB, and CA-1 Adam Brown came to provide tremendous help with resuscitation. Dr. Manning was a calm and collected leader during this situation while Emily pushed drugs to maintain hemodynamics. Our techs, Emily and Rodney (not pictured), made repeated runs to the blood bank, brought the Belmont, and sent labs.
Fist Bump for Andrew Whang, MD, Chad Greene, CRNA, Eric Conklin, MD, and Tim Miller, MB, ChB
Thanks to Andy and Chad for doing a phenomenal job taking care of a sick OB hemorrhage patient. Great job Eric for keeping all the active patients on L&D safe while we were all tied up in the OB OR. Thanks, Tim, for sharing senior resident Andy for such a huge portion of the shift. It was a team effort, and I truly appreciate everyone's hard work and help! - Mary Yurashevich, MD
Fist Bump for Sophia Sourlis, MD, Niki Winters, MD and Gina Russell, MD
Drs. Sourlis and Winters’ incredible dedication and teamwork during a busy few daysdeserves recognition. Faced with four consecutive liver transplants, they took excellent care of our patients, seamlessly kept the transplants rolling, and supported each other throughout.
