The Department of Anesthesiology is pleased to provide an internship
program for a select number of applicants to our residency program to
fulfill the Clinical Base Year requirement of the American Board of
Anesthesiology. Anesthesiology faculty coordinate this popular
transitional year in collaboration with many other departments within
Duke University Medical Center. The internship includes rotations
designed to provide essential background for subsequent training in
anesthesiology. Included among these are experiences in general
internal medicine, cardiology, pulmonary medicine, pediatrics, general
surgery and emergency medicine. Interns also rotate through the
pediatric and surgical intensive care units. Our interns also enjoy
elective experiences in Duke’s hyperbaric chamber and many other
locations in the medical center. We are excited to provide this
internship experience for individuals who wish to receive the entirety
of their training at Duke.
The application process for the anesthesiology internship is the same as for the residency. We currently have eight categorical positions that include the internship (PGY-1 through PGY-4) and six positions that only include anesthesia training (PGY-2 through PGY-4). Preliminary internships in the Departments of Medicine and Surgery are also available. Interested applicants should contact the respective Departments for application materials. |
