Ultrasound Guided Regional Anesthesia Preceptroship Course

Course Features

  • Preceptorship is observation only*
  • Limit of two preceptorships per three-day session
  • Start time is 6:30am on Monday with nerve blocks in the pre-op area followed by an OR start of 7:30am
  • Rounds in the OR and floor with Duke Faculty or Regional Fellow
  • Ultrasound machine “Knobology” and probe handling instruction
  • Basic image acquisition for Regional nerve blocks
  • Review of nerve stimulation techniques and contrast differences between ultrasound and nerve stimulation
  • Obtain views in difficult cases
  • Interactive discussion in the block room and OR on decision making
  • Regional Anesthesia equipment choices
  • Protocols for post-operative pain management
  • Review of appropriate documentation and billing for regional anesthesia practices
  • Exposure to Regional Anesthesia “in action”

*No ‘hands-on’ experience or patient contact permitted. NC Medical Board license and Duke Hospital credentialing is mandatory for clinical patient contact.
