Ultrasound Guided Regional Anesthesia Preceptorship

Course Features
- Preceptorship is observation only*
- Limit of two preceptorships per three-day session
- Start time is 6:30am on Monday with nerve blocks in the pre-op area followed by an OR start of 7:30am
- Rounds in the OR and floor with Duke Faculty or Regional Fellow
- Ultrasound machine “Knobology” and probe handling instruction
- Basic image acquisition for Regional nerve blocks
- Review of nerve stimulation techniques and contrast differences between ultrasound and nerve stimulation
- Obtain views in difficult cases
- Interactive discussion in the block room and OR on decision making
- Regional Anesthesia equipment choices
- Protocols for post-operative pain management
- Review of appropriate documentation and billing for regional anesthesia practices
- Exposure to Regional Anesthesia “in action”
*No ‘hands-on’ experience or patient contact permitted. NC Medical Board license and Duke Hospital credentialing is mandatory for clinical patient contact.
