Background and Interests

I am a senior undergraduate student at Duke University from Charleston, South Carolina. I am pursuing a B.S. in Neuroscience and a minor in Chemistry. During my time at Duke, I have enjoyed learning about the many applications of biomedical research, specifically in the field of neurobiology. My work in the lab centers around investigating central maintenance of chronic primary pain conditions, specifically looking at the effects of COMT genotype and stress on microglial activation and other CNS biomarkers in pain-relevant brain regions such as the cingulate gyrus, granular insula, and the basolateral amygdala. My work with immunohistochemistry assays and subsequent analysis of brain images has been my favorite part of my work in the lab thus far. I plan to attend Medical School after completing my undergraduate studies and I have an interest in the specialty of radiology.

In my free time, I play the flute in the Duke University Wind Symphony, and I love spending time with my dogs. I am a huge Duke sports fan. Fun fact: I have tented for both Duke-UNC games in my time at Duke and I was in the front row for both!
