Background and Research Interests

I am a scientific researcher with interdisciplinary expertise in cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neuroscience. I completed my doctoral training in Pharmacology at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), China. During my graduate studies, I worked in Dr. Tianxin Yang's lab, focusing on the role of the (pro)renin receptor in hypertension and kidney disease. For my Ph.D. dissertation, I conducted research on investigating the interplay between atherosclerosis and ferroptosis under the mentorship of Dr. Jiahui Zhou. During my graduate studies, I developed a keen interest in the immune system’s involvement in disease, particularly in the roles of dendritic cells and T cells. To further explore this area, I joined Dr. Steven Crowley’s lab at Duke University, where I investigated the role of dendritic cells in hypertension and kidney disease. As my research in cardiovascular disease advanced, I became increasingly intrigued by the nervous system’s regulatory role in disease and its potential to serve as a critical link between various organ systems. This sparked my interest in neuron-immune interactions. In October 2023, I joined Dr. Donnelly’s lab as a postdoc to investigate neuron-immune crosstalk in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). My long-term goal is to pursue an academic research career in cancer neuroscience, with a focus on the neuron-immune interactions.
