2011 DIG Research Projects | “Gender-based Differences in Genetic Expression after Acute Brain Injury in Mice”
This study was based upon the belief that females respond better after brain injury than males do. This “injury” could be the result of accidental trauma or brain surgery. The reason why females respond better than males extends far beyond simply estrogen vs. progesterone. The goal of this study was to observe how genes turn on and off when coping with brain injury, which could ultimately lead to information that would help everyone respond more favorably to brain trauma.
