Dr. Grecu Named Inaugural SEAL Award Recipient

Please join us in offering our warmest congratulations to Loreta Grecu, MD, on being the inaugural recipient of the SEAL (Supporting Excellence through Advanced Learning) Faculty Development Award, a new initiative that adds to our department's growing portfolio of faculty development opportunities and reflects our commitment to supporting faculty growth and future leadership.

This award serves as an annual department initiative to support one faculty member in pursuing a master’s degree program, offering up to $45,000 in tuition reimbursement to foster long-term leadership here at Duke. Awarded tuition is contingent upon satisfactory academic progress, timely program completion, and a commitment to remain on faculty at Duke for two years following completion of the program. As our inaugural recipient, Dr. Grecu will pave the way for this exciting program, reflecting our deep investment in her advanced learning, academic progress, and continued impact on our faculty for years to come.

Dr. Grecu joined Duke Anesthesiology faculty as an associate professor in 2017. She earned her medical degree from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 1992 and completed her early residency training at Bucharest University before moving to the United States. Dr. Grecu completed her anesthesiology residency at Yale University, followed by advanced training at Harvard University, where she earned consecutive fellowships in both cardiac anesthesiology and critical care.

Supporting the growth of our faculty is one of the most enduring contributions we can make as a department. We hope the SEAL award will create opportunities that benefit both our faculty and Duke Anesthesiology for years to come. The next award application period opens July 1, 2027. Additional details will be shared internally closer to the submission window.

Please join us in celebrating Dr. Grecu on this well-deserved honor and wishing her the best as she embarks on this exciting chapter of her academic journey.
