Animal Models

The animal surgery room features 4 custom-built surgery stations with all necessary tools for microsurgery and physiology monitoring.

The major equipment includes surgical microscopes, automated small animal ventilators, anesthesia vaporizers, feedback temperature controllers, laser Doppler flowmeters, laser speckle contrast imager (LSCI), ECG monitors, blood pressure monitors, and stereotactic devices.

The well-characterized disease models include filament middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO), transcranial MCAO, photothrombotic stroke, cardiac arrest (KCl-mediated and asphyxia), and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Behavioral Testing

The behavioral testing rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art animal tracking software and hardware.

The established functional tests include neurologic scoring, rotarod, Morris water maze, Barnes maze, Y maze, open field, tight rope, foot fault, pole test, adhesive tape removal test, novel object recognition, and novel object location.

Histology

The histology room is equipped with cryostat, microtome, vibratome, tissue chopper, dissection microscopes, and fluorescence microscopes.
