Duke Anesthesiology’s residency and fellowship classes of 2022 gathered on June 4 and 5 to celebrate their graduation from the department’s training programs. Fourteen residents received their diplomas at the ceremony held at Bay 7 in Durham and 38 fellows received their diplomas at the ceremony held at The Rickhouse in Durham.
The Duke Anesthesiology Fellowship Education Program is led by Dr. Mark Stafford-Smith, who says, “With pride, I offer my sincere congratulations to our fellow graduates! As the direct impact of COVID declines, it is being replaced by a host of important indirect effects of COVID on our health care system. In this ever-changing environment, the professionalism and poise of our fellows has majorly contributed to Duke Anesthesiology’s ability to maintain the highest standards while providing care to our patients.”
The Duke Anesthesiology Residency Program is led by Dr. Annemarie Thompson, with associate residency program director, Dr. Brian Colin, and assistant residency program director, Dr. Angela Pollak. “It has been my pleasure and my honor to get to know and work with each and every one of these outstanding residents,” says Thompson. “It is absolutely thrilling to be able to congratulate them as they graduate from our program. With a deep sense of pride in their accomplishments, I look forward to watching them take their places in the world and make important differences in the lives of their patients and in the global medical community.”
Resident leadership positions were also recognized during the ceremony:
Chief Residents: Drs. Yohannes Constable and Rebecca Himmlewright
Education Chief Residents: Drs. Vincent Brinker and Erika Lodgek
ACES Chief Resident: Dr. Leah Acker
