Dr. Gulur Appointed to New DUHS Position

We are pleased to announce that Duke Anesthesiology's Padma Gulur, MD, has been named the director of pain management strategy and opioid surveillance for the Duke University Health System (DUHS), effective July 1, 2019.

In this new role, Dr. Gulur will provide overall direction, coordination and leadership for the pain management and opioid surveillance programs across DUHS. She will work closely with DUHS leadership to critically review existing initiatives, identify gaps and develop new approaches for an integrated approach to pain management, safe and appropriate opioid prescribing, management of patients with opioid use disorder, and opioid diversion.

Dr. Gulur is a professor of anesthesiology and population health sciences and is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine, specializing in advanced interventional pain management. She also serves as Duke Anesthesiology’s executive vice chair for performance and operations, and is the medical director of the Inpatient Pain Service.

Dr. Gulur is an internationally-recognized expert in the field of pain management. She has developed and implemented innovative guideline-based approaches to pain management using pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments at Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of California, Irvine. In addition, she is the chair of an FDA advisory board and is the vice chair of the MOCA Pain Committee for the American Board of Anesthesiology.
