A distinguished faculty committee at Duke has selected Duke Anesthesiology’s Kelly Machovec, MD, MPH, as a recipient of the 2022 Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. This award is sponsored by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation and has been supported by Leonard Tow since 2003. Recipients of this award demonstrate compassion in the delivery of care, respect for patients, their families, and health care colleagues, as well as clinical excellence.
Machovec is an associate professor of anesthesiology who joined Duke Anesthesiology faculty in 2013. She is a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist at the Duke Children’s Heart Center who has profoundly impacted the clinical practice around hemostasis.
Dr. Eddie Jooste, current chief of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Division says, “This does not surprise me at all. Kelly leads with her heart and is a fierce advocate for her patients whether they are here at Duke or on a mission trip. We are so proud of you, Kelly!”
“Everyone at Duke who has been touched by Kelly’s kindness, fairness and unwavering ethics knows that there is no one more deserving of this honor. This is truly so special and well deserved,” says Dr. Allison Ross, director of professional development and former chief of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Division.
The committee found this year’s nominees exceptionally impressive. The faculty awards will be presented at the annual Duke University School of Medicine Spring Faculty Celebration on May 10 at Duke Gardens.
