How to Perform Transmitral Flow Measurements

  1. Obtain a mid-esophageal 4-chamber view
  2. Align cursor with blood flow through the mitral valve (use color flow Doppler if needed)
  3. Place sample volume at the level of the mitral valve tips in diastole
  4. Use pulse-wave Doppler
  5. Using the preset measurements available under ‘Analysis’ measure:
    1. Peak E velocity
    2. Peak A velocity
    3. Deceleration time of the E wave
    4. A wave duration
