Duke Anesthesiology Fist Bump

Fist Bump for Joshua Dooley, MD

Huge thanks to Josh Dooley for exemplifying cool and calm leadership while directing the resuscitation and airway management of a life-threatening arterial hemorrhage. Josh saved the patient's life with his quick decision-making and ability to mobilize resources in the heat of a crisis, and brought order to a chaotic situation that--if it were not for Dr. Dooley--would undoubtedly have ended very poorly. Thanks, Josh, for showing us (and our nursing and surgical colleagues) what leadership looks like in a crisis. - Jeffrey Gadsden, MD

Fist Bump for Kelsey Getzloff, CRNA

Even though she wasn’t assigned to L&D, Kelsey went above and beyond and came up to L&D to give us a hand when we had a very busy day with many urgent add-on cases. - Liliane Ernst, MD

Fist Bump for Matthew Buck, MD

We are grateful for Dr. Buck’s exemplary patient care! He calmly and respectfully defused a tense patient, who had previously been aggressive with staff, so that they could have an ultrasound performed. In addition, during a case in which an opioid-tolerant patient experienced a serious complication, which he managed swiftly while the patient was struggling to maintain their composure, he guided the team through both a challenging resuscitation and intra-op/post-op pain plan. We appreciate you! – Brian Barron, MD, Adriana McMichael, MD, Hannah Azbarzadeh, CRNA

Fist Bump for Chakib Ayoub, MD

Thank you for helping supervise a late night epidural for a patient in respiratory distress in the ICU as the main OR call attending. Early epidural placement made a huge difference in this patient's hospital course and possibly saved their life. - Tyler Poi, MD

Fist Bump for Jenifer Crompton

Jenifer has done an amazing job with our fellowship interview season process. She did an outstanding job in coordinating the interview process for our two largest programs and their complexity. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication with your first interview season. - Teena Wyatt

Fist Bump for Erick Lorenzana-Saldivar

We would like to recognize Erick for his dedication to our patients. He recently assisted one of our participants who needed to be unexpectedly admitted for treatment (unrelated to study activities). Erick went above and beyond by staying with the patient, walking them over to the hospital, contacting the clinical team, and ensuring all was taken care of until late evening hours. He made the patient feel comfortable and well cared for. He’s a phenomenal asset to the department. - Alice Schultz

Fist Bump for Jack Newman

Thanks for all the work you do behind the scenes to make Duke Anesthesiology Grand Rounds lectures happen flawlessly every week. - Atilio Barbeito, MD

Fist Bump for Subasish Bhowmik, MD

Dr. Bhowmik always goes above and beyond to help out! He is on his advanced OR rotation and was not even assigned to my OR, but made himself available to help. It started off with coordinating and performing popliteal/saphenous blocks for the first case in my room, followed by arranging all the necessary steps to do a thoracic epidural for my second case while I got tied up in the other OR. Thanks for being such a team player. - Mary Yurashevich, MD

Fist Bump for Joshua Dooley, MD

On a particularly busy OR day, Dr. Dooley stepped in to help with several challenging procedures. Despite also being busy, he went above and beyond by making an intentional effort to teach both me and my pre-med student; he created a supportive learning environment and brought levity and positivity to the situation. He made the patient feel comfortable and well-cared for. Very grateful for the opportunity to work with him - he’s a phenomenal asset to the department. - Reade Tillman, MD

Fist Bump for Blair Costin, MD, Vijay Krishnamoorthy, MD, Rachael Mintz-Cole, MD, and Jamie Privratsky, MD

We had to figure out a full ICU week on short notice and multiple team members stepped in to fill shifts. Vijay worked nine days in row (!), Jamie did additional days even though we couldn't trade shifts, Rachael had to work night shifts after these additional ones, and Blair was just coming off ICU nights. All these team members went above and beyond to help out when we needed and they all deserve recognition for their hard work and dedication to our ICUs. - Nitin Mehdiratta, MD
