We are proud of achieving a 100 percent board certification pass rate for the past eight years, and all of our CA-3 residents who applied to fellowships were matched with their first choice. At Duke Anesthesiology, we equip our residents with the skills to work with a variety of patient cases and change the world around them.
Duke has one of the nation’s highest volumes and best outcomes for cardiac transplants and is home to North Carolina’s largest pediatric heart-transplant program, which offers outstanding outcomes, coordinated care, family support and long-term follow-up. Duke is also in the nation’s top one percent in thoracic aortic surgical outcomes and is a national leader in arterial grafting.

In 2020, US News & World Report ranked our department within Duke University #4 among the Best Medical Schools for Anesthesiology. This marks the third time that the magazine conducted specialty rankings in anesthesiology. And, US News & World Report once again ranked Duke University School of Medicine among the top in the nation, specifically the #12 Best Medical School for Research. Forbes magazine recently ranked Duke University the #1 Best Southern School and USA Today ranked it the #3 Best Private College in the United States.
