Meet the Team

The team is comprised of a well-focused group who can look at individual components of a pain condition and begin to identify treatment modalities that will be used for specific patients, ultimately revealing a number of novel discoveries in the pain field that will transform the way Duke diagnoses and treats pain patients. The team includes high-level epidemiologists, biostatisticians and basic scientists who have set up a new treatment unit associated with Duke’s Private Diagnostic Clinic and health care system.

Team members of the Center for Translational Pain Medicine help with:

  • Analysis and collection of data
  • Disease modelers to help with identification of novel pathways involved with pain
  • Discovery of work and validation mechanistically at the basic science level
  • Reverse translation, looking at human phenotypes and human genetics
  • Back discovery, showing in animal models what we discover in clinical models, which allows the team to identify new targets for treatment

Eventually, there will be many different clinical treatment and procedure areas that will be fully integrated with research staff doing high throughput, very efficient assessments, phenotyping, and biologics acquisitions that can be used for discovery in Duke’s clinics.
